"We Strive to Lead, One step at a Time but Always Forward"

The Agonian Story

The Alpha chapter of our sorority was formed in 1892 as the Agonian Fraternity in Geneseo, NY. Our chapter was granted admission at the 31st Annual Convention of the Agonian Fraternity held at Cortland, NY, on May 2, 1924.  There were thirty-six founding members.

We are the oldest sorority on the SUNY New Paltz campus and are known as AGOs on campus and among our chapters.

Our history of tradition has kept the feeling of sisterhood thriving for over ONE HUNDRED years. The sisters of Alpha Kappa Phi are diverse, yet our sorority enables us to come together to become leaders, better individuals, and contributing members of the community.

Our sorority flower is the yellow rose; our stone is the pearl; the Greek Inscription is ponoumen agein ... Friends Forever. Our symbol is the anchor, which represents the security you will find in the strength of AGO.

Our colors are Navy, Robin's Egg Blue, Gold, and White.

The AGO bench at SUNY New Paltz has been refinished!

Huge shout-out to Kim Schofield for organizing!
